As Operators, Maintenance and front line Office workers we are exposed to the public much more than the average person is. More often than not our contact is made in confined areas and through hundreds of touch points on vehicles, equipment and shared office spaces. We met with the employer to discuss our concerns and they have assured us they are prepared for any potential outbreak. We also continue to monitor the Alberta Chief Medical Examiners Office for updates at: www.alberta.ca/coronavirus-info-for-albertans.aspx#statement
Currently the experts say there is no need for medical masks and the best prevention is still to thoroughly wash your hands; avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands; avoid close contact with people who are sick; and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
If things change we will work to ensure everything is put in place to protect us as front line workers and to protect the safety of friends and family when we leave work.
UNICEF has an important video addressing these concerns also (please see below).
